Pope Francis’ first encyclical to be published on July 5th

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis’ first encyclical “Lumen fidei”, will be published on Friday 5th of July. The document will be presented at 11 am, at the Vatican Press Office.   Amongst those participating at the press conference will be Marc Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation of Bishops, Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Archbishop Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.

Measles Alarm for 10 Counties in the South Sudan

Yirol (Agenzia Fides) – A serious outbreak of measles is endangering the lives of many children in Yirol, a town on the southern border of the newborn South Sudan. There are 10 counties throughout the Country that have epidemic outbreaks, in addition to the refugee camp in Maban.  Click here to read more.

Bolivia’s First Decree on Migration is Ready

La Paz (Agenzia Fides) – It is expected that on the 8th of August, President Evo Morales will issue a supreme decree on “immigration amnesty” in Bolivia. It would be the first decree which, together with the immigration law, published on 8 May, establishes rules governing the immigration situation in the country.  Click here to read more.

From Social Conflict to Religious Violence in Punjab

Lahore (Agenzia Fides) – Interfaith tension in Rahim Yar Khan, a town in Punjab. An episode of conflict between Christians and Muslims has generated mass protests of Christians and could escalate into open anti-Christian religious violence, partly because some would like to turn it into a case of blasphemy. This is what Gulshan Barkat, a Pakistani priest and missionary of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate told Fides Agency, “the situation remains tense and uncertain” in the area of Bheel Nagar, called by Christians “Nazareth Colony”, in Rahim Yar Khan, where 250 Christian, 70 Hindu, 200 Muslim families live.  Click here to read more.
