Obama Administration Says No to Vulture Funds

Washington, DC, July 7, 2013 (OMI JPIC Office)- Last week, Jubilee’s Executive Committee wrote President Obama to thank him and his Administration for their efforts to stop vulture funds that profit from exploiting poor people. The Reverend Séamus Finn, OMI, a Jubilee USA Board Executive Officer, signed on to the letter, representing the Oblates.  Click here to read more.

Jesus calls us to be missionaries, Pope Francis reflects

Vatican City, Jul 7, 2013 / 09:12 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In his July 7 Angelus reflection, Pope Francis reminded those gathered in St. Peter’s Square that all of the faithful are called to be missionaries, spreading the Gospel message.  Reflecting on the day’s Gospel, he observed that “Jesus is not an isolated missionary, does not want to fulfill his mission alone, but involves his disciples.”  Click here to read more.

A documentary about a Peruvian Catholic who died in a Nazi concentration camp will be shown during WYD

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – A documentary realized in Peru on the life of Madeleine Truel has been selected as one of the films that will be shown to the participants attending World Youth Day 2013 in Rio, says a note sent to Fides by the Peruvian Bishops.  Click here for more about this WYD event.

The humanitarian crisis in Central Africa is a drama that threatens to inflame the entire region

Bangui (Agenzia Fides) – “More than 60,000 children and their families suffer from serious food shortages and more than 200,000 children and their families were forced to flee their homes over the past 6 months,” says a complaint appeal signed by 9 humanitarian organizations operating in the Central African Republic and by His Exc.
