Pope Francis: “Go, do not be afraid, and serve”

2013-07-28 (Vatican Radio):  Celebrating the World Youth Day Holy Mass in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, Pope Francis told those present that it was time to go and to pass on this experience to others.  Addressing a crowd of over 3 million people gathered on Copacabana beachfront for the concluding Mass of the weeklong event, the Pope focused his message on the very theme chosen to run through World Youth Day: “Go and make disciples of all nations”.  Click here to read Pope Francis’ homily.

New Report on the state of human rights: “intolerance is tolerated”

2013-07-25  Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) – “A pervasive intolerance is widely tolerated in Pakistan”, says a new Report on the state of human rights in the country, published by the “Human Rights Commission of Pakistan” (HRCP), one of the most important Ong’s in the country. The Report, sent to Fides Agency, documents the serious human rights violations registered in 2012, highlighting some key points that touch the lives of religious minorities.  Follow the story.

Stand in Solidarity with the People of Jeju Island

July 27th, 2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean Armistice. We remain deeply worried about the negative social and environmental impacts that will affect the Gangjeong community living on Jeju Island. This military expansion threatens the way of life of our brothers and sisters and the surrounding fragile coral ecosystem that is recognized as a U.N. Respect and dignity for women in Kananga: poor, lonely and with dependent families

2013-07-29 Kananga (Agenzia Fides) – In Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo, even if the population does not live the direct consequences of the war looming in the Central African country for decades, it suffers the consequences. The religious, voice and prophetic action in society

2013-07-26 Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) – The approximately two thousand religious present in Papua New Guinea, among orders and men and women congregations, “are called to be a prophetic voice, ready to denounce injustice”: is the appeal launched in a note sent to Fides by the Bishop of Goroka, Msg. Francesco Sarego, SVD, of the community of the Divine Word missionaries, asking for a greater presence of the Federation of the religious orders on the crucial issues affecting the lives of society and the nation, such as, for example, the death penalty or reception of refugees and asylum seekers.  Click here to read more.
