A small “WYD” in the city of Aleppo

Aleppo (Agenzia Fides) – On the day that Pope Francis celebrated the concluding Mass of World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, even Christian children in the martyred city of Aleppo came together to experience a day of prayer and communion of spirit with three million of their peers gathered on Copacabana beach and to help them keep together the hope, even in the suffering and struggle that marks their daily condition.  Click here to learn more.

In the small community of Kofale mission begins thanks to children 

Kofale (Agenzia Fides) – Kofale is an ancient city with a Muslim majority in the region of Arsi, at 2600 meters above sea level and is 265 km from Addis Ababa. The presence of a small Catholic community began in the mid-90s thanks to the missionary, Father Gianfranco mangoli. At first it was a branch of the parish of Gighessa, today it is a parish belonging to the Apostolic Prefecture of Robe.  Click here to learn more about this mission.

The Cathedral of Santiago has re-opened after last week’s incidents

Santiago (Agenzia Fides) – A Mass was celebrated in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago de Chile after the violent raid in the place of worship on behalf of several protesters (see Fides 27/07/2013). The celebration was presided by Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati, in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr. Ivo Scapolo, along with bishops, priests and about 5000 faithful. Several civil authorities and representatives of the police and the army were also present.  Click here to learn more.

OCLACC Assembly: The Mission of communicators, promoting the spread of truth

Quito (Agenzia Fides) – The Assembly of the Continental Organizations of Latin American countries and the Caribbeans of Catholic Communication (OCLACC) is being held (from 1 to 3 August) at the “Nuestra Señora del Quinche” Spirituality Center in Quito. This is the first OCLACC/Signis Assembly, says a note sent to Fides Agency, and this meeting will aim to analyze the role of Signis (the World Catholic Association for Communication) in the communications of the Catholic communities of the continent.  Click here to follow the story.
